About RGIS-Mid-South
Mission and Goal
The mission of the RGIS Consortium is to eliminate the digital divide facing rural America by promoting the transfer of geospatial technologies (i.e., Geographic Information Systems, GIS) to under-served rural areas by:
providing geospatial tools, technologies, and training to empower local governments, organizations, and citizens to understand and participate in decisions that affect their environment, economy, and quality of life;
educating and training a cadre of people to apply geospatial technologies to rural issues;
supporting the development of appropriate local land information systems, as well as linkage to and cooperation with regional, state, and national land information systems.
Our goal at RGIS?Mid-South (RGIS-MS) is to improve the effectiveness of government and the quality of life in rural America by increasing the use, application, and awareness of geospatial technologies for city, county, state, and regional governments. We accomplish these tasks through research, appropriate technology transfer, education (at multiple levels), and distribution of GIS data, supporting users, developing prototype applications, and by offering professional GIS education to a growing audience of new users.

** New ** 2004 Northwest Arkansas Imagery
The Northwest Regional Planning Commission organized a collaborative effort by many groups in the region that have acquired high resolution aerial imagery (12 in. resolution, true-color) from a Spring 2004 acquisition by the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department. This data has been loaded into Arkansas' GeoSpatial Data Distribution System, GeoStor (www.gis.state.ar.us), as of January 31, 2005. Recent publicity by local newspapers and television media has spurred interest in this data by many non-GIS users.
The RGIS-Mid-South office and other members of the NWA Imagery Task Force have been flooded with requests for these new imagery products. In order to provide improved access to this data, the RGIS-Mid-South office has developed an online imagery data viewer that provides access to the 2004 Aerial Photography via most any Internet browser. Data downloads or specialized software are not required! If you do require the actual data it is accessible via GeoStor.
Access to the NWA Imagery Viewer requires a ONE-TIME completion of a brief registration form. User information will not be redistributed (i.e., no SPAM) and RGIS-Mid-South staff will only notify users for website administration purposes.
